Since being developed by the British during their rule in India, curry powder has become a convenient ingredient for making Indian cuisine in Western countries.

Curry Powder

During their colonial rule of India the British developed a mixture of spices of widely varying composition as a means of approximating the taste of Indian cuisine at home. Most recipes and producers of curry powder usually include coriander, turmeric, cumin, and fenugreek in their blends. Depending on the recipe, additional ingredients such as ginger, garlic, fennel seed, Clove, mustard seed, green cardamom, black cardamom, nutmeg, red pepper, cinnamon, and black pepper may also be added.

As well as being delicious there is also evidence that the ingredients found in many curry spice powders used to make Indian cuisine have certain health benefits. India has very low incidence of Alzheimer's disease. The research indicates that curcumin, a component of turmeric found in most curry powders, is the protective agent.

Curcumin has also been credited with extremely beneficial effects on health problems of all kinds, including: hiv, cancer, diabetes, healing of muscle injuries, and a myriad other ailments. Curry powder's other main spices have also long been known to give mental clarity.
